Abstract
Protection against short-circuit currents is an important factor in terms of safety, reliability and durability in electrical networks of all voltage levels. Well-designed protective device must be able to limit short-circuit current so that the Joule integral value does not exceed the standards set value. The paper analyzes experimentally measured arc voltage waveforms generated in arch chamber and its impact on the course of the current and the energy released in the quencher system. Experimental data obtained from switching short-circuit current in the LV circuits under different conditions of switching are compared with the results of theoretical simulation approach. Contribution shows the accuracy of calculation methods and circuit parameters which have an impact on limiting of short-circuit current, taking into account the proposals and verification activities of LV AC circuit breakers.
