Electrical Characteristics of Incompletely Unrolled Three-phase Power Cable on Wodden Drum

Abstract
The article presents a theoretical computational approach for electrical parameters of a general 3-phase power cable. The motivation is the insufficient studies of the incompletely developed cables still partially on the drum. It is so, because all the analytical computational methods known are for the straight conductor. The power cable used in this article is described, as well as the wooden drum on which is wired before installation. Using the theoretical background, the electrical parameters of the cable are computed and compared to the reference measured values from the manufacturer. The error is evaluated and discussed. After the initial evaluation, the second scenario is considered, with cable incompletely developed and partially still wrapped on the wooden drum. Solution for this problem is achieved through simulation in Ansoft Maxwell software. Model of the power cable is described and the increased values of inductance and resistance in comparison to the perfectly developed power cable are discussed. All the results are also compared to the accordingly selected overhead line conductor to confirm the expected parametrical differences. The main outcome from this article lies in the definition of the electrical parameters of the completely and partially developed three-phase cables, which are used in practical applications. It is shown, that the electrical characteristics’ differences of the incompletely developed cable on a wooden drum have to be taken into account, when talking about power installations of such types, or even such installations can be considered as a possible alternative temporary solution.
