Calculating the shielding effectiveness of materials based on the simulation of electromagnetic field

This paper deals with modelling the penetration of high frequency electromagnetic field through the specific materials. It is focused on the electromagnetic field distribution in frequency range from 1.5 to 5.0 GHz, penetrating through combination of these materials: polystyrene and brick, glass – vacuum – glass, and combinations with shielding material. Nowadays in domestic appliances and wide area exists a lot of electric and electronic devices, which are the sources of electromagnetic interference. To protect against harmful electromagnetic interference is in first case important design concept of the sources of electromagnetic interference, and some additional protection can be represented by construction works of rooms or building. For this reason, the article sets out to evaluate the shielding effectiveness of some specific materials and the ways how to improve the shielding effectiveness of these materials. Simulation of the penetration of electromagnetic field is created in the ANSYS HFSS.
