The application possibilities of a multi-agent system in distribution grid operation

Abstract
Nowadays, since trends in control and application of different types of renewable energy source are moving forward, it is necessary to ask what direction will follow the control system of distribution grids. From the current development, it is clear that the impact of the application of modern grid components decreased the number of people needed to provide the necessary manipulations. Application of these components have opened up new possibilities in distribution grid control. It is necessary to establish requirements for the control system itself. As suitable solution seems to be the use of autonomous control. Autonomous control itself is closely connected with the field of robotics. Typical case is a robot that aims to find convenient route to the desired target with various external adverse effects.
The example of the autonomous system implementation is a multi-agent systems. Multi-agent systems and its application in distribution grids mainly depend on the chosen concept. The current trend of massive development of smart metering also contributes to utilization of multi-agent systems, as appropriate type of smart meter can provide highly relevant information required for operation of multi-agent system. It is also possible to control the demand using the smart meter, if it is equipped with switching relay or high-power transistor. The design of such a system is subject to the some requirements. It must be noted that the requirements are arising from certain historical control patterns and processes. Pretty much it depends on the topology of components and sources connected to the distribution grids. The number of agents and of their subordinate’s services depends largely on the facts mentioned above. Therefore it is necessary to make a model of the distribution grid from which it would be possible to determine the voltage drops under various loading conditions. Based on the results it is possible to determine the ways of operation of the gird (on grid / off grid). Then it would be possible to design very structure of multi-agent system with recommendations. However, structure itself must take into account the autonomy and the possibility of extending.
